Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Apply working at height regulations and procedures
  2. Relevant safe work instructions, workplace procedures and risk assessment policies and procedures are applied
  3. Hazards are identified, risks are assessed, and control measures are implemented
  4. Communication is undertaken effectively with relevant persons
  5. Select and inspect equipment for workingat height
  6. Faults or damage are immediately reported to relevant personnel in accordance with workplace procedures
  7. Use working at height equipment in the stevedoring industry
  8. Working at height equipment is used in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
  9. Working at height equipment is used in a work cage in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
  10. Anchorage points are identified and used in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
  11. Working at height equipment is inspected and stored, and faults reported in accordance with workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards prior to and whilst working at height

communicating effectively with others

completing relevant documentation

following relevant instructions, workplace procedures, information and signs

identifying, selecting and inspecting working at height equipment

post-operational inspection and storage reporting faults in accordance with workplace procedures

using correct manual handling techniques

using personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with workplace procedures

using relevant working at height equipment

working from a work cage when working at height.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

codes of practice and regulations relevant to working at height

manual handling methods for working at height

relevant sections of Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Marine Orders Part 32 – Cargo handling equipment

relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines and workplace procedures

risk assessment policies and procedures

risks and hazards involved in working at height and related risk control measures

working at height emergency response procedures

working at height equipment checks

workplace procedures for using working at height equipment.
